Kiwanis Family
Key Club does not act alone. We partner with several other service-based organizations to form the Kiwanis Family. Together, all of these programs come together to promote a caring world full of servant leadership. Here are the other members of the Kiwanis Family:
K-Kids is a service club for elementary school students. The students help out their school and their community, and many continue on to other Kiwanis organizations during middle school, high school, and beyond. Oak Harbor has a K-Kids at Crescent Harbor Elementary for grades two through five. Every year, OHHS Key Club partners with K-Kids to lead KCON: a mini convention where we help kids submit things for contests. Visit www.kiwaniskids.org
Builders Club is for middle schoolers. They partner with UNICEF and March of Dimes to help serve on a global scale, and they also do local community service and build essential leadership skills. In Oak Harbor, there is a Builders Club at North Whidbey Middle School. Some things the club has done the past couple of years include planting gardens, participating in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF, helping with Rachel's Challenge, and collecting items for WAIF. Circle K International is for college and university students. Circle K is one of the biggest community service organizations for college students worldwide, and is a great way to be involved in the Kiwanis Family after high school. The organization can be found on more than 550 college campuses worldwide in 17 different countries. These clubs continue to serve through programs like the Six Cents Initiative, and they also partner with many charities. Learn more at: www.circlek.org.
Kiwanis International allows adults to continue to impact the world through caring service. Clearly they've been successful, as 2015 was the 100th Anniversary of Kiwanis! Each year, Kiwanis raises tens of millions of dollars to benefit communities, charities, projects, and families. Key Club, Builders Club, Circle K, and K-Kids would not be possible without Kiwanis, as they generously sponsor each club. In Oak Harbor, OHHS Key Club sends two students every week to attend the Kiwanis Breakfast. We share what we are doing in Key Club, and Kiwanis in turn shares with us.
